The Eastern Kings Memorial Community Health Centre was officially opened with much excitement in March 1996. The Transition Committee formed by the Board of the Eastern Kings Memorial worked together in a community development approach to complete a community assessment to assist in the planning of primary health care in Eastern Kings. Results of the community assessment are published in the report, What Determines A Healthy Life: Concerns for Community Health (July 1995). It was determined through the community assesment process that a Community Health Centre would be care initiatives in Eastern Kings. A document entitled, EKM Strategic Plan and Proposal (September 1995) was completed to provide the direction for the development of the Eastern Kings Memorial Community Health Centre. The Eastern Kings Memorial Community Health Centre (EKMCHC) became a designated facility of the Western Regional Health Board January 1, 1997.
