How-to Telnet and Ftp to Glooscap ServerTelnet to Glooscap / FTP to Glooscap Sometimes it is necessary to operate on the Glooscap server. If you wish to write your own homepage to be viewed over the internet then you will have to transfer files to the server and modify names and permissions. This page will help you accomplish t hose tasks. The internet address used for both FTP and TELNET is glooscap.go.ednet.ns.caTelnet to GlooscapTelnet allows a user to contact and run another computer over the internet. You must have an account on the other computer. If you are a member of Glooscap, you will have have a username that will be required when you contact Glooscap. Your computer sh ould be setup as a VT-100 terminal. Upon contact you will be first asked your username. Type this in and hit return. Then you will be asked for your password. When you registered with Glooscap you were given a temporary password; use that on your first lo gin. YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR TEMPORARY PASSWORD ON THE FIRST LOGIN. After you are logged on, give the command passwd and you will be prompted for a new password. What do you do when you are on Glooscap? Your can:
While on Glooscap you can use any of the many Unix Commands to operate the computer. To leave Glooscap just give the command logout or exit. Ftp Files to and from GlooscapIf you have a suit of internet programs, then there will be an FTP program among them. The program allows you to move files between your computer and another using the internet. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. You will have to log onto Glooscap in the same manner as telnet. You need your username and password. When connecting with FTP you will only have a few Unix commands available for manipulating files. The most important task is to move files between com puters.
